Education is a primary issue of interest for First Lady Bryant, and she wants to help ensure that all Mississippi children get a comprehensive education that will prepare them to be successful adults. Mrs. Bryant enjoys visiting schools throughout the state and does so often, speaking to assemblies and meeting students individually. The specific initiatives she promotes are:

  • Early childhood education
  • Reading
  • Self-esteem
  • Healthy lifestyles

In 2014, Mrs. Bryant traveled the state reading to students in all 82 counties. As part of her "Read Across Mississippi" campaign, she not only promoted early childhood literacy, but also emphasized the importance of identifying reading disorders at a young age.

Additionally, Mrs. Bryant has partnered with the Barbara Bush Foundation to provide parents of newborns in Mississippi with the “Love.Read.Learn!™” Baby Journal. Illustrations in the book were created by local students through an art contest at the Mississippi Children's Museum. The journal is an engaging and educational scrapbook-style journal filled with reading and learning tips, plus child wellness information. With the support of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the journal is being distributed at no cost to new parents at hospitals throughout the state to encourage parents to read to their children at an early age.
